YOU ARE MY WINGS

This swan crystal felt like a great image for me to use for this song. It was taken from a larger painting of mine named “Perfume Medley.”

For this post, I’m excited to share my fifth and newest arrangement of “You Are My Wings.” To hear it, simply click the blue link below:

“You Are My Wings” was one of the first songs I chose to have arranged when I began rediscovering music in 2010. It was in the same key I sang my song in as a young girl – far too high for me. After 30 years of not singing, I didn’t realize that I had a different vocal register as a 50-year-old woman. It was a year after that, when I began transposing all of my songs.

At the end of this post, I’ll share all the different versions of “You Are My Wings” just for fun. (But the only one with my vocal will be this new one).

I hired my vocal coach, Peaches Chrenko, to sing with my first two arrangements. The third arrangement was a “pop” version that I ended up disliking (I’m not big on percussion). The fourth version could use an updated vocal, so I’ll share it instead as an instrumental version.

Five years ago, I posted the first part of this story. At that time, I had no idea where my music would lead me. If ever there was a post that truly captured the beginning of my fabulous journey, it was that one:

Story behind YOU ARE MY WINGS – PART 1

Creating this new, fifth arrangement allowed me to apply all of the musical lessons I have learned in the five years since my journey began.

My newest version includes a bridge that I wrote lyrics for. When I shared my song with a good friend, his remarks echoed what many people have told me about my music – my song had a “stage musical” feel. He said, “I recently saw a musical theatre performance with a Peter Pan theme; when Wendy and Peter are flying, I could easily hear your song playing!”

I had fun recording the vocal for this sweet arrangement, even though I wasn’t singing about a person I was in love with. What I actually imagined, was that I was flying with my music. That image allowed me to find the vibe I wanted for my song.

Today, I uploaded song files for my first vocal CD, which will be named “Alabaster Seashell.” I’ve chosen “You Are My Wings” to be the first song for that album and my CD will be available within two weeks.

I have four CD’s of instrumental music available for sale – but I have not released any CD’s with vocals yet.

It has been difficult for me to finalize any of my song’s vocal tracks. There are many reasons for this, but I realize that letting them go will be uplifting for me. I want to move forward to speak and share my music with more live performances and having a CD is necessary for that.

I look ahead to 2016 and am excited about the beautiful new places where my music will take me. For anyone listening to my songs and reading my words, thank you for sharing this beautiful journey with me.

I painted these perfume bottles many years ago. I used watercolor/dye and colored pencils.

In 1980, I recorded my song on a cassette. I mailed it to a good friend who was living in another country for a year. It was so sweet of her to have saved that cassette, which she gave back to me years later.

My voice is too high for me to listen to – but I’m glad I had that recording to help me remember my song. I share below an excerpt from that tape, where I speak a little about composing it:

 –

I never wanted to fly alone, but you’ve sent me soaring

upon a love, I have never known

I’ll love you in air; when we’re down to earth

Our lives we will share

Today we’re flying to the sun

You are my wings, my companion

Above the earth we are like one in the heavens

We’re sailing those pink clouds in the sky

Reflected rainbow in your eye

You know how I love to fly

Way up above, I’m in love

yes, I’m in love

I never dreamed it’d happen to me, but I know that

we can’t fly this high for eternity

If we shed out wings, we’ll walk together

and face what our future brings

Today we’re flying to the sun

You are my wings, my companion

Above the earth we are like one in the heavens

We’re sailing those pink clouds in the sky

Reflected rainbow in your eye

You know how I love to fly

Way up above, I’m in love

The world is ours

we’re touching all the stars

My heart’s taken flight

Love glows through the night

Now we’re flying to the sun

You are my wings, my companion

Above the earth we are like one

In the heavens

We’re sailing those pink clouds in the sky

Reflected rainbow in your eye

You know how I love to fly, way up above

You know I always wanted to fly

Way up above, I’m in love

I really do love looking at “pink clouds in the sky.”

I really do love looking at “pink clouds in the sky.”-
